Most people in modern society are fully aware of the immune system. Is there such a thing as a mental immune system?

Weekly Hogen☺#41

Weekly Hogen (Okinawan Dialect) :

English – It is noisy.

Japanese – yakamashii(?????)
yagamashii (?????) *
urasai (????)

Hogen – yagamasanu (?????)

(*NOTE: This word seems to be a deviation on base word yakamashii. As with the individual islands of the Ryukyu Island chain, certain areas of Japan tend to have a "slang" and word derivatives that are indicative of each particular area. This is simliar to the "you all" and "y’all" differences heard in America.)

More Waterworks Work

Filed under:☽2006,Culture — posted by JAWjaw on @ 9:45 am

Back on 25 December I wrote about the continuing saga of the water pipes. Well as soon as I stepped out of the shower first thing this morning, I was greeted by the sounds of picks followed by jack hammerish sounds. Seems that the waterworks pit is finally going to get some pavement over it. Given that the rainy season is approaching, this is a noisy but good thing.

April Madness

Filed under:☽2006,Culture — posted by JAWjaw on @ 2:18 pm

With the final game of the college basketball season, much of the sports world hangs on for the culmination of March Madness today. However, sports fans in Japan are experiencing a culmination of thier own brand of madness, the final game of the semi-annual Japanese high school baseball season. Given that the sports scene in Japan is not as broad-based as stateside, this is a very big deal locally. Many of the more talented individuals introduced to the nation through these games will eventually become some of the more well-known baseball icons over here. And if the extraordinary player is really lucky, it’s to the “big game” and international popularity.

The First Laugh

Filed under:★2006,Odds-n-Ends — posted by JAWjaw on @ 2:11 pm

I ran across an article on ancient laughter. Being owners of two absolutely hilarious and expressive dogs, this subject was particularly interesting. We always thought those two dogs were enjoying a good chuckle now and then.
