Tropical cyclone season is on us and TC-2 has been declared. This is a shot of the sky around the time the condition was declared. Not exactly the sky scape most people would expect during an approaching typoon.

Now that the holiday celebrations are coming to an end, let’s take a look at some of the other reasons people have found to crow. July salutes beans, mullet, barbecue, chocolate, macaroni, ice cream sundaes, milk chocolate with almonds, eggs in an omelette, sugar cookies, blueberry muffins, beans and franks, french fries, vanilla ice cream, coffee, hamburger, cheesecake, jellybeans, cotton candy, and raspberry cake with a day in their honor; canned luncheon meat has it’s own week; potatoes and cherries have festivals; hot dogs, ice cream, and blueberries are honored for the entire month. For a more complete list of the monthly celebrations take a look at these sites:

I recently ran across a site that has some very good background information on Japanese life. Although somewhat stereotypical, it is a good beginning for anyone interested in the basic culture.
Another look at the Korean flower tree that can be found occasionally on island.

Since we recently began a journey into the world of cooking as a hobby, Hubby decided to give a go at growing his own salad greens. These backyard boxes contain some of the greens after the rainy season ended. (I’m surprised the boys haven’t eaten them all yet. One of our former dogs, Rosie, liked munching down on young avocado trees.)
