Another New Year’s Eve…

For those who still might not know, today is the Chinese New Year (of the boar) Eve. When I arrived on island in 1973, this was a time for celebration and many of the local merchants closed their shops in recognition of the holiday. Now-a-days, most of the welcoming of the new cycle is held over the January 1 – 3 time frame. Anyway, have a Happy New Year of the Boar!!!

  1. Happy New Year. Can help me out? I was on the rock 80-82 and worked in a club on BC called Kokusai. I’m tryin to get in touch with Atsushi Shinjo. He and I shared an aptment while I was there and I just wanted to catch up. Looks like you know him fairly well from The Jet. I’ll look forward to any info you can give. Thanks in advance.

  2. Appin (Atsushi) went his own way in September. He visits occasionally. I haven’t kept tabs on him and don’t really know what he’s up to these days, other than working on base during the day (the last I heard). I’m sure he plays around the area sometimes, but to be honest about it, musicians change bands frequently over here. You could try another former band of his member, Carlos’ site. He also works in a civilian hire capacity on the same base, so maybe they run into one another more frequently.

  3. Hey thanks for responding. I’ll check out Carlos’ site. I really like your website. You seem like a relly good person. You’re right about musicians, they change bands like the low & high tide (but thst’s everywhere). You’ve been on Oki for 25 years? Wow. I could ask you a million questions.

  4. P.S. When you say “on-base” do you mean Kadena?

  5. Actually, I arrived on Okinawa in 1973 and have lived here for most of the past thirty-four years.

And no, in this case “on-base” means any base with civilian hire.
